Daryl Templar - Video Transcript

My name is Darryl Templar, I'm Finance Manager for Imperial Tobacco. I manage a team of 14. We're responsible for reporting financial data to head office. We also control and manage budgets within Imperial Tobacco.

Due to the nature of the Finance Department, the person that I'd be looking to recruit for skills and the personality would be hard working, a keen eye to detail, organised, a good communicator, is able to build relationships with other departments.

I've benefited a lot from my training and development with Imperial Tobacco. When I joined in 2004, Imperial Tobacco helped me through my accountancy qualification, in 2008 I was promoted to Finance Manager, my current role. I was put on a six month coaching course, which involved having a coach for six months to help me through issues with managing a team. I also had great support from my line manager, which assisted me in developing my management skills.

There is a working culture within Imperial Tobacco, and I believe it's a hard working culture, a good drive for results. They are also very supportive and there's good communication cascaded from senior management, so it allows you to feel that you're involved within the organisation.

I do feel there's career progression with Imperial, I do have plans to take the next step to, hopefully, become the financial controller within the next two to three years, which will be a great opportunity for me to then look at the next steps. I feel that I get great support from my line manager to help me achieving becoming financial controller, good support from him and also from HR and the learning and development team.
