I'm Vernon Little, I work for the Marketing Department, the marketing team, and, as a team, we look after all of the brands that Imperial Tobacco produce.
The challenges, specifically, that Imperial Tobacco face are, we tend to have to think a little bit differently to be successful in what we do. We rely heavily on our people, as the usual lines of communication that a normal FMCG company can use, we cannot, so we tend to have to be a little bit cuter in what we do.
The type of person who will be successful at this role has to be confident, certainly when dealing with people, but also when facing challenges, and usually unexpected challenges, and they have to think creatively and have a certain amount of dynamism within them, but also we willing to work hard, and I think that runs through the company and not just to this role.
The good thing about Imperial Tobacco, I would say, is the people. It really is a team ethic and, if you're willing to put the hard work in, you do get rewarded.
Obviously, you've a lot of training and development, even since I started, five years ago now, ranging from Microsoft Excel training to negotiation skills, so it really is varied. You can get consistent support, depending on what role you're in or where you are, but it is continuous throughout your career and you truly can develop at any stage of that career. You can get as much support as you'd like from Imperial Tobacco in the role that you're in, or if you want to look further afield, and there's a number of schemes that the company do run, whether that be UK based or international, so the world's really your oyster, depending on how far you want to push yourself.
A fast moving career in Imperial Tobacco is what you want it to be. I've had four jobs since I started five years ago and I've had numerous support from Imperial Tobacco, so, a fast career in Imperial is the opportunity to progress and move on if you want to.
