To be an Area Sales Manager, because you are working with people all the time, it is imperative that you work well with people and that you enjoy working with people. A lot of my job involves leading a team and ensuring that they know the vision of the company, my vision and the company's vision, in order to move business forward.
I think there is a working culture in Imperial Tobacco and I think it is a good one. It is very team focussed – not so much individuals but team players. It is the good of your team, the good of your region and the good of the company as a whole. People are very hard working, energetic and ultimately want to be successful and continue being the UK number one.
Imperial Tobacco is a very fast moving place to work. We have to always make sure that we are responding to the dynamics in the market and as such, we need to be pretty fast paced in terms of responding to that.
I think Imperial Tobacco is a very supportive organisation and we have some brilliant training programmes available right from when you start. If you start as a Field Sales Representative, there is an excellent package for that. Throughout people's career paths, there is always support on hand and people will speak to their managers and work out what the next step is, what development areas they have, and training is put in place accordingly.
I think people should consider working for Imperial Tobacco because it is an incredibly successful business. On the FTSE 100, we have outperformed so many other blue chip companies. Also, not only is it a successful company, we have got fantastic leading brands in the market. Globally, we are successful as well, and it is a really nice place to work. There are lots of people that have worked for Imperial Tobacco for many years and they stay with Imperial Tobacco because they are supported and they know the job that they do counts.
