As a FTSE 100 Company we receive many applications each year - so how can you stand out? Well we've given you some insider knowledge which will hopefully demonstrate what can set you apart from the rest and what we look for in successful applicants. As you can see below, it's not all about qualifications; it's about you as an individual and the skills you can bring to the role.
Sounds obvious doesn't it, but when it's raining and cold on a Monday morning we'll still expect you to demonstrate the same levels of enthusiasm as any other day. Self motivation, a strong work ethic and a 'can do' attitude will help you and your team mates achieve your call objectives and reap the rewards of your team bonus ('Sales Force Incentive Scheme').
No two days are the same for our Field Sales Representatives, with an average of approximately 250 different retailers in a territory you'll encounter a variety of different people each day, each with different expectations of you. In addition, we expect you to be flexible regarding time spent away from home during the week, particularly during your initial training period and first six months in the role where you may be either away attending a training course or you could be asked to cover another territory for a short time.
You'll need ambition and drive to achieve targets, whether it's as part of a distribution drive or other objectives your ASM may set you. You'll be expected to demonstrate resilience; retailers are busy people and will not always have the time to see you. Not stopping at the first hurdle and through persistence you'll be ready to up your performance levels in order to achieve targets, despite whatever setbacks may come your way.
When you first start you may feel daunted by everything you have to remember, we therefore look for candidates who demonstrate their ability to prepare, plan and be as organised as possible as well as being able to adapt for the unexpected. With an average of 13 calls a day and daily administration to complete you'll take full responsibility for managing your own time so the ability to prioritise and remain organised is essential.
Business and sales focus is critical, we'll expect you to take a commercial approach to your work. Understandably you'll be naturally sales orientated and will always look for areas where you can maximise sales and opportunities for doing business.
You're the face of Imperial Tobacco to the Independent Trade. Each day you'll be out and about daily, talking to retailers about our brands, you'll therefore need to demonstrate that you can communicate effectively, engage and build long lasting relationships.
Aside from having Maths and English GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent), a full UK driving licence is essential as you'll be on the road everyday since our Representatives are field-based.
You also need to be eligible to work in the UK to apply. We cannot accept applications for our Field Sales Representative positions from candidates who require a work permit to work in the UK.
